What my neighbor was hiding - The Reveal!

So yesterday morning I posted a couples !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of what could either have been a supercar from the golden age of cocaine or a total knockoff and posted them to Oppo. The guesses from comments seemed to favor the latter and, hey, who can blame them? Who on Earth keeps a supercar parked in their driveway when they have a perfectly serviceable garage right behind it?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Welp, I took the pooch for an afternoon stroll through the 'hood yesterday afternoon and, as it turns out, I learned that my neighbor does.

Kinja'd!!!

For those wondering "why?" the answer, apparently, it so he can keep both of his low-mileage C4 Zr1s out of the weather.

That bumper, its so ugly.

Now that we've got that out of the way, did he supply a complimentary line of coke to snort off the wing?

I know that every journalist who has actually driven one of these quickly came to hate it. I know the federalized front bumper is hideous. I know it is outrageous and cartoonish, because it has always been so.

I don't care. My inner twelve year old starts squealing when I see one of these. The real twelve year old me really did have a poster of this on my wall. I've just decided that driving one, even briefly, is now on my bucket list.

The way he was talking about it, he seemed to think any regular ol' beat cop would immediately spot it as a violation and that he'd get a ticket if he drove the car without it. I didn't dig too deep there, though.

And the cut-out is not the only 'strange' thing. Pop-up headlights seem to fit very poorly (but hey: could be as it is Italian), mirrors not synched in colour with body (could be pre '85), seatbelts missing, missing badges (not just the bull, also 'designo bertone' on the side) and the wheels somewhat look out of synch with the '25 anniversary'-style of the higher air-intakes. Bumpers sure are strange on a kitcar nevertheless, but someone trying to dress a pre-88 '25 anniversary' like a 25 anniversary (by altering the intakes) or vice versa (by changing the rims/mirrors) sure seems strange to me as well. And as I recall those bumpers were removed by original Countach-owners as well the day it arrived. I still believe it is a (decent) kit-car.

Another SD Opponaut! Hey neighbor.

Yeah, Point Loma real estate is not cheap by a long shot! Not to mention that there is pretty much ZERO space to build anything new.

I know someone that keeps a 1928 Buick in the driveway under a tarp. Despite Point Loma being surrounded by water on 3 sides, this thing has held up pretty well in the environment.

Kinja'd!!! Brian, The Life of > Just4GP

Kinja'd!!!0

Hey fellow sandy-eggin'! My neighbor across the street keeps a very clean Ford Model A in his driveway under a tarp. I think where we are is juuust far enough from the beach that the morning dew does not carry the sea salt this far. We get lots of moisture on our cars but it does not leave behind the dreaded salt crystals upon drying.

We bought our place at the end of 2010. Even though it was at the "bottom" of the market before the rebound, I am almost embarrassed by how much value we've gained ... almost double to this point, if you believe Zillow's "Zestimate." Whatever, it's a "paper gain" only, as far as I'm concerned. I am just amazed at what our just over 5,000 square feet of dirt is apparently worth now.

What part of America's Finest do you live in?

Kinja'd!!! Just4GP > Brian, The Life of

Kinja'd!!!0

Congrats, that was a great time to buy. There are a lot of beautiful homes in Point Loma. The layout of the few homes I've been in there is really deceiving. What looks like a modest bungalow on the outside, turns out to be a really nice spread on the insides. I'm not surprised to hear about the Model A. I can only imagine what is to be found if you were to look in some of the garages down that way.

I'm in Sabre Springs, just west of Poway

This is what threw me off with the tarp over it. I'd never seen a Countach in the US actually wearing a US-spec bumper. Most owners took it off immediately.

What a small world. My office is in Rancho Bernardo. Our president lives in PL and makes the drive up every day. That is a long commute but opposite traffic makes all the difference. I used to live Paradise Hills. It was 30 miles each way (which is about the same for you, isn't it?) and I did it in a shitty car. Well, for some of the time. Not having the entire city going to the same direction made it bearable.

Now I'm 5 miles away and in the best car I've ever owned. With the mileage my CL55 gets, I couldn't afford the gas to make that drive today.
